With over 100 years in business the company has evolved from it’s origins in the shipbuilding industry to leading specialists in the Water Chemistry and Advanced Composites sectors.
A history of evolution
CCP Gransden’s origins date back to 1894, when the company was an integral part of the rapid development of Belfast Port when many of the great ocean going liners of the late 19th and early 20th Century were built in Belfast. With the outbreak of 1st and 2nd World Wars the company grew with increased demand for both running and dry dock repairs. Post war however the company faced tougher times with a reduction to trade within the shipbuilding industry.
Faced with a slump within their core business in post war years the company diversified with a wider engineering remit. The company’s services were extended to include boiler making, mill weighting, pattern making as well as equipment repairs for diverse sectors such as quarry, textiles and manufacturing. Services were evolved further in the 1950/60s to include shot blasting, metal spraying/coating, corrosion resistant plastics and even early composites; the origins of the Advanced Composites business we have today. Clients at that time included many of NI’s blue chip manufacturing companies; Michelin, Enkalon, ICI Courtaulds and even power stations across Scotland.
Entering the 1970’s Northern Ireland manufacturing faced further hardships. During a period of prolonged political and economic crisis the company’s ethos of evolution saw further adaption and amalgamations to the company structure. Significantly in 1985, the company took over Gransden (Bi-Chem) Ltd with Allied Colloids distribution for Northern Ireland associated with water, waste water treatment and textile processing. When Allied Colloids was acquired by Ciba Speciality Chemicals, CCP Gransden became the exclusive distributor across the whole of Ireland. The relationship flourished and has been continued by BASF, the world leading chemical company, when BASF took over the Ciba water treatment business. Today, CCP Gransden Water Chemistry has developed further with increased services, products and technical personnel to establish ourselves as the market leader in the supply of flocculants used in the treatment of water, waste water and minerals across Ireland.
CCP Gransden Ltd, and its wholly owned subsidiary CCP Gransden Ireland Ltd in Dublin has now been evolved into two complimentary divisions of Water Chemistry and Advanced Composites. Offices in Belfast and Dublin ensure we are strategically placed to deliver enhanced solutions for our diverse client base.
